March Variety Show Scheduled

1:30 pmto4:30 pm

The 3rd Monthly Variety Show has been scheduled for Sunday, March 22nd at 2:00 pm @ The Grass Valley Center for the Arts. This month’s show features Mountain Laurel (Bluegrass), The Norm & Tubby Quartet (Gypsy Jazz), Larry Ilg (Cowboy Poet), and your hosts Ragged But Right. This is a great line-up, with a nice variety of acts.

Mountain Laurel has been a popular local band for some time, and for good reason. They are great! In fact, they will be performing at this years Father’s Day Bluegrass festival on the big stage. So come on out and get a preview.

If you are not familiar with “Gypsy Jazz” that the The Norm & Tubby Quartet play, you should be! Harkening back to the great Django Reinhart and the Parisian Swing of the 20′s, this is a very lively, swinging style of guitar music that is very virtuosic. That means these folks can PLAY!

A life of cowboying is woven into Larry Ilg’s poetry. Old cowboy masters, contemporary poets, and some of Larry’s original poems are part of the show when he takes the stage.

Come on down, bring the family, and have a great afternoon of entertainment.

Doors open at 1:30, show starts at 2:00. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the show, or in advance at Briar Patch Co-op and through the “Ticket” link on the right.

2nd Variety Show a great success!

The second monthly Variety Show was held on Feb. 9th, and was a great success. The show seems to be catching on already – attendance was up by 25%.

The fast-paced show featured juggling act The JuggleBoys, old-time string band Buffalo Gals, gold-rush-era musical historian and humorist Alkali, and the music of hosts and local favorites Ragged But Right.

We got so many good comments by audience members at the intermission about how this kind of family-oriented variety show is exactly what this area needs. One father shared “I love music, but it is very hard to find a regular event that I can share with my kids. This show is perfect because we can enjoy a Sunday afternoon of music and entertainment together.”

Check out the Pictures section for some good shots of the show.

First Ragged But Right Variety Show Extravaganza!

On January 11th of 2009 we had the very first “Ragged But Right Variety Show Extravaganza” (or RBRVSE, to save typing time!)It was held at the Center For The Arts in Grass Valley, CA.

The featured performers were The Anderson Family (Old Time and Bluegrass), Past Due and Playable (Texas Swing & Bluegrass), The Wildwood Quartet (Barbershop Quartet) , and of course, your hosts Ragged But Right.

It was a fun-filled afternoon of musical entertainment for young and old alike, with 85 folks attending – not bad for the first show. We got lots of great feedback, with most everyone really enjoying the variety-show format.

Welcome
